With 15 years of experience of working on Wales’s biggest selling newspaper, the South Wales Evening Post, and having promoted my own plays and books I am ideally placed to offer you media and marketing advice.
With newspapers cutting staff and ever increasingly looking towards User Generated Content it has never been easier to get your agenda into print – as long as it is well written and pitched correctly.
I have over a decade and a half of media experience that will allow me to produce a press release that will more or less write itself into print or broadcast.
I will discuss your situation, select the hottest angle, deliver tight, punchy copy and organise enticing photographs.
Here are an example of a Press Release that I have written:
The Tin Shed Second World War museum in Laugharne wanted to attract media attention to highlight its Militaria Fayre and Swap Shop. The press release below got a full page in the Western Mail.
American GI set to storm West Wales Militaria Fayre
AN American Second World War veteran – who was raised in Swansea – will be guest of honour at a West Wales Militaria Fayre and Swap Shop.
Clifford Guard, who served in the US 3rd Armored Division during the global conflict, will be the guest of organisers The Tin Shed Experience on Sunday, October 4, in Laugharne’s Memorial Hall between 10am and 5pm.
The 92-year-old will be signing copies of his recent memoir, GI Limey, which tells the amazing story of how we escaped the slums of Swansea by going to sea at the age of 15, took part in the Atlantic Convoys when the war broke out before joining the US Army after finding himself in New York when the American’s joined the war.
Following his involvement in the five major campaign of the European theatre of war Guard, who was known as Limey by his US pals, spent nine months in the Army of Occupation before resettling in America After the War. The book also details how he has struggled to deal with post-traumatic stress disorder, following combat, for the rest of his life.
Simon Pugh Jones, of the award winning Tin Shed Experience, said: “We are very grateful that Mr Guard is able to make the journey west to take part in what will be a unique event for all those who show an interest in the Second World War.”
Mr Guard said: “I’m looking forward to going down to Laugharne and having a look at all the memorabilia that is sure to be on display.
“I had the good fortune to visit the Tin Shed last summer and it sure brought back some memories for me seeing those artefacts, not least being able to hold a M1 rifle again.”
Mr Guard’s biographer, Swansea-based journalist and writer Geraint Thomas said: “It was a privilege writing Cliff’s memoir as he recalls the story of those who became known as the Great Generation for, possibly, one of the last times.
“He is at pains to say that he isn’t a hero but he freely placed his life on the line for the freedom we often take for granted today. For that he gets my endless admiration and utmost respect.”
While picking up a Post Graduate Diploma in Magazine Journalism from Cardiff University I was short listed for two major student ‘Feature Writer of the Year’ awards in the Press Gazette Journalist Awards and the PTC New Journalist of the Year Awards so feature writing is a speciality.
Whether for your own enjoyment, website or publication, I will use my skills to interview you in a relaxed but efficient manner before crafting a feature that will be as good as any in the magazine industry.
A professional photographer is also available to capture the best possible accompanying pictures.
As with a well-crafted press release a professionally prepared feature would be an attractive proposition to editors looking for content.
NB People often fail to see the media potential in events but sometimes the seemingly most innocuous detail can attract national coverage resulting in priceless publicity from your viewpoint – if in doubt call in the experts.
Here are some examples of Features that I have written:
Several years ago the Holocaust Educational Trust invited me to accompany a handful of students on a visit to Auschwitz. It remains one of the most memorable and deeply moving experiences of my working life.
In return I wrote this feature in a bid to help spread the Trust’s message that we should never forget what can happen if we fail to respect our differences.750KbAuschwitz Feature
In a bid to promote the excellent National Trust’s Parc Dinefwr in Carmarthesnhire I paid a visit and wrote this feature for County Life Magazine.25MBDinefwr Feature
